Why Skitzzo loves Raven Tools

How many z’s can you fit in one sentence about Ben Cook?*

Ben Cook — a.k.a. Skitzzo — has been in the SEO biz for six years, and he’s a WordPress whiz, too. Skitzzo navigates the maze of internet marketing with Raven Tools, which he futzes with daily to generate more buzz for his clients. When I quizzed Skitzzo about his love for Raven Tools, he zeroed in his favorite razzle-dazzle features.

Ben Cook 2010
Ben Cook's parents named him after Dr. B.J. Honeycutt on M.A.S.H. 'While I love that show and the character,' Ben said, 'I kind of wish my parents had thought about the repercussions I'd face once I hit junior high or high school with a name like B.J.'

Which Raven tool do you use most often?
Link Manager, and some of the research tools, like the Backlink Explorer. I use the Link Manager to track my efforts for clients, and the Backlink Explorer does a good job giving me ideas on where I can fill in and where my competitors might be getting links. And how my link building is doing in terms of anchor text.

Which Raven tool saves you the most time?
Automated reporting. It saves me around 10 hours a month — that’s time I have to eat or time I have to bill my clients for. And it looks much more professional than the stuff I was doing before. If everything else went away and you guys just provided that, I would still use Raven. That pays for itself right there.

Which one of the Raven Tools are people stupid for not using?
Raven’s integration with MajesticSEO — you have to pay for that kind of information if you go outside of Raven Tools.

Do you have any secret ninja tricks for Raven Tools?
Overlaying events with the rankings can be pretty interesting at times. Pretty much anything you can overlay over your Google Analytics that will let you see trends or correlations is interesting. It gives my clients a visual idea of what’s driving what.

How long did it take you to become a Raven Tools whiz?
It’s all very intuitive. Since almost everything I use [for SEO] is integrated, it was a natural progression to use this as the hub. I didn’t have to spend a lot of time training myself.
