TechCrunch Releases New Version of CrunchBase

If there’s anything important or interesting going on in technology, then you’ll probably find it on TechCrunch. TechCrunch has become the source for technology industry news and they spend much of their time obsessively profiling and reviewing new Internet products and companies. They’ve actually taken that one step further with the (re)introduction of CrunchBase. CrunchBase is a free directory of technology companies, people, and investors that now anyone can edit.

Although anyone can edit the directory, it appears that all edits are heavily moderated, which I consider to be a good thing. It ensures the quality of the data and in my mind makes the directory even more reliable. The directory is straight forward and easy to use. You can tell that a lot of attention was given to the design, because the layout of the data seems well thought out. I predict that in time, CrunchBase will become the defacto directory for tech company data.

Each company and the people related to the company can be displayed with a JavaScript widget. This enables you to display up-to-date information on any company or person.

You can also create your own widgets. For example, you can add several companies together and create a custom list of companies.
