It’s time to say goodbye to guest blog posts — on the Raven blog, at least.
In a lot of ways, it’s a bummer to come to this decision. Many smart marketers have reached out to us genuinely and in good faith over the years, and the result has been some really great articles and relationships we likely wouldn’t have had otherwise.
That’s how it’s supposed to work.
But supporting the old adage of “This is why marketers can’t have nice things,” the reality is getting further and further away from the ideal. The reality is more like this:
- The spam is out of control.
- They take too long to edit.
- Trust for them is eroded.
- I actually wrote an email that contained the sentence “I have some concerns that you’re not a real person — or at least, not this person.”
We’re not the first to throw in the towel on the guest blogging. We’re following the lead of other properties, such as State of Digital. Full disclosure: Raven’s Arienne Holland writes a monthly “more productive marketing” column for State of Digital, at their request. That’s what we’re doing with Susan Wenograd, who now covers PPC topics for us.
So starting now, if you want to write for Raven, don’t contact us. We’ll contact you.
