Hashtags – a word or phrase that contains the pound symbol # before it – first made their first appearance in 1988 in an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel.
But ever since the humble hashtag came of age on Twitter as a way to organize topics and search for messages, they’ve only grown in popularity.
Today, hashtags are used on social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Google Plus and others as a convenient way to find relevant content.
Facebook is the latest social network to add hashtags, with the aim to generate more social buzz around common and popular topics.
And did you know you can add hashtags to Facebook posts right from Raven?
When you compose a new post in Raven’s Facebook tool, simply add the hashtags to the terms you think a larger audience might search for.
Once it’s posted, it will look like this in Raven. As you can see, the hashtag is not hyperlinked.
But when viewed in Facebook, you’ll see that the hashtag added in Raven is hyperlinked.
When a user clicks on a hashtag in Facebook, they’ll see more content related to that topic.
